Hornby Island Water Quality – Drinking Water Info
The water in the cabin is potable ( drinkable). However, city slickers may detect a slight odor to the water. This is Normal ! It is very slight, and just so you know, way less ‘ smelling’ than the rest of the island… and I’m not just saying that!! If you pour the water in a jug or container and let it sit for a while - lid off – the sulphur smell will evaporate, and it will be just like city water, but with all the healthy trace minerals, and no added nasty chlorine bleach ! No one I’ve rented to over th eyears has complained about the water, so I’m confident you’ll be fine. But just in case, there is a water jug dispenser, for those who prefer ‘ store-bought’ water.. But it’s really not necessary, in fact, I have had people tell me that the well water at our cabin makes the coffee taste better!!
Please don’t overdue your water use. Make sure taps, and/or hose is not left running. We are on a well, and wells run dry if we’re not careful in the summer. With that said, go ahead and take as long as you’d like in the shower – you’ll run out of hot water before running the well dry, if you’re in there too long!
